A 38-year-old man accused of murdering his ex-brother-in-law in Euosmo, Thessaloniki, was remanded in custody, according to lifo.gr. The decision was taken by the 3rd examining magistrate following the completion of his statement.
The incident occurred on the evening of last Friday. The 67-year-old was transferred to Hippocrates Hospital, where he died in the early hours of the following day from severe traumatic brain injuries, which were established during forensic examination.
The 38-year-old — who was previously engaged to the victim's daughter — faces charges of wilful manslaughter, as well as for supplying and possession of narcotic substances for personal use.
In his statement, he claimed that he was together with the 67-year-old while both had consumed narcotics and alcohol. According to him, tension erupted when the 67-year-old insulted his personality and manhood. He reported memory gaps regarding the events that followed the verbal altercation, but claimed that he attempted to help the victim and subsequently notified the Police and EKAB.
Through his lawyer, he submitted a request for an expert assessment regarding his degree of drug dependency. The examining magistrate and prosecutor unanimously decided to remand him in custody.
