40-year-old remanded in custody in Heraklion for child pornography and surveillance of women
A 40-year-old arrested in Heraklion was remanded in custody, facing serious charges including child pornography and surveillance of three women.

A 40-year-old man arrested in Heraklion was remanded in custody following his statement, facing a series of serious charges — both felonies and misdemeanours. Newsit.gr reported that the arrest was carried out on Friday, 25 September 2026 by officers from the Heraklion Police Directorate for Prosecution and Investigation of Crimes.
The charges he faces include child pornography, violation of sexual dignity, violence against employees, bodily harm, disturbance of domestic peace committed repeatedly and continuously, threatening behaviour in the form of surveillance, violation of personal data legislation and illegal possession of a weapon.
What the accused admitted
During his statement, the 40-year-old admitted that he had surveilled only one of the three women included in the case. "The accused has accepted the surveillance of only one woman and not the other two. That is, where he was arrested. However, he claimed it was only surveillance that was not combined with any indecent act. Regarding the other victims, he stated that he had never been to their place of residence, nor had he seen them, nor did he know them," his defence lawyer stated.
Regarding the woman he admitted to surveilling, his lawyer stated that "it was something that, as he claimed, overwhelmed him and he could not control himself."
Claims regarding pornographic material
Concerning the child pornography videos found on his mobile phone, the accused reportedly admitted that he downloaded files from the "dark web", claiming however that "he believed they contained material only with adults". Regarding the presence of material with minors, he claimed that "it was planted on him by malicious software".
Timeline of the case
According to police, the 40-year-old allegedly surveilled and harassed at least three women, aged 18, 20 and 25, between 14 June and 25 September 2026. The first reports were made in mid-June, when a break-in was detected to toilet window screens in two flats in Thenon, where two students aged 25 and 20 live.
In video documentation released by newsit.gr, the 40-year-old is seen following one of the young women whilst simultaneously committing an indecent act.
