An investigating judge and prosecutor in Chania ordered the remand in custody of a man accused of the manslaughter of a 45-year-old woman. The suspect had confessed to the act.
43-year-old remanded in custody for murder of woman in Chania
Judicial authorities in Chania decided to remand in custody a 43-year-old man who faces serious charges in connection with the death of a 45-year-old woman in Varypetro. The decision was taken following his appearance before an investigating judge and a public prosecutor.
He is reported to have admitted his involvement in the incident during the preliminary examination. He was subsequently called upon to provide explanations for the charge of wilful manslaughter, which is prosecuted as a felony.
His defence counsel, Giannis Trikoilis, confined himself to stating that his client seeks forgiveness from the victim's relatives, without making any further statements.
During the hearing, the accused described the events that led to the fatal incident. His defence presented him as a person who regrets his actions, a fact which is reported to have contributed to his confession.
The charges brought against him include wilful manslaughter as a felony, unlawful possession and use of weapons, fraud via computer, burial without the required permit, and use of controlled substances.
