The 43-year-old who confessed to the murder of 45-year-old Stavroula Leventaki in Crete was unanimously remanded in custody following questioning that lasted more than four hours.

Following four hours of questioning, the prosecutor and investigating magistrate unanimously decided to remand in custody the 43-year-old who admitted to killing 45-year-old Stavroula Leventaki on the island of Crete.
The defendant was taken to court in the morning under heavy security measures. Before the judicial officials, he requested forgiveness from the relatives of the woman who lost her life. His lawyer argued that his client appeared remorseful, a fact which—according to the defence—helped him to admit to his act. Nonetheless, information from the prosecution authorities indicates that the incriminating evidence was particularly serious, making a confession almost inevitable.
According to what has been reported, the perpetrator attacked the victim multiple times inside the flat he had rented to her. He first hit her with a bottle, then stabbed her twice in the heart with a large knife and finally struck her in the head with a piece of wood.
After completing the crime, he made a video call to his wife who lives in Gaudo. He buried the body in a pit on the plot next to the house, bought sweets and went to see an acquaintance.
Upon his arrival at court, people from the circle of the unfortunate 45-year-old loudly expressed their disapproval of him. He has been charged with premeditated murder and other offences.
The incident has shocked the local community. The trial is expected to be scheduled in the coming months.
