Police forces proceeded with the arrest of a 53-year-old woman in Rethymno, as she is alleged to have obstructed investigations into locating the person who fired shots during a social event.

The incident took place on the evening of Saturday (27/6) at a residence located in the Rethymno Municipality area. A family gathering was being held at the house, during which an unknown person began firing shots into the air. The gunfire immediately mobilised local authorities.

Police officers from the Rethymno Crime Investigation Division, the Operations Department and the Crime Prevention Unit arrived at the scene. The officers conducted an investigation inside the residence and in the surrounding areas, where they found four cartridge cases and eight rounds of ammunition, which were confiscated.

The homeowner was arrested on the morning of the following day (28/6). According to reports, she refused to disclose who was responsible for the shooting, thereby obstructing the arrest of the perpetrator. For this reason, she was charged with violation of the weapons law and harbouring a criminal.

The investigation into locating the perpetrator of the shooting is being continued by the Rethymno Crime Investigation Division.
