Rhodes: Felony charges against 43-year-old who struck pedestrian and fled the scene
A 43-year-old driver has been arrested in Rhodes following a pursuit by taxi drivers after he struck a 64-year-old pedestrian and abandoned the injured victim at the scene.

A 64-year-old man is being treated in serious condition at Rhodes Hospital after being struck by a car driven by a 43-year-old man, who is reported to have been under the influence of alcohol, according to the Newspaper of Editors.
The driver abandoned the injured man at the scene, and professional taxi drivers who were in the area took action and pursued him. Rhodes Traffic Police were called immediately and arrested the 43-year-old within minutes.
Manolis Diacostamatis, president of taxi owners in Rhodes, stated to Rhodiaki that the injured victim is a colleague of his and confirmed that taxi drivers mobilised immediately after the victim was abandoned.
The 43-year-old, with his lawyer Giorgos Kypraiou, was brought before the District Prosecutor of Rhodes, where criminal prosecution was initiated against him for the felony of dangerous driving. He remains in custody and will appear before the Rhodes investigating magistrate on Wednesday 3 June.
The Rhodes Traffic Police Department is conducting a preliminary investigation into the exact causes of the accident.
