Five people were injured in simultaneous attacks using improvised explosive devices against residences of members of the ruling New Democracy party.

In the early hours of Wednesday, nearly simultaneous explosions occurred at three different locations in Thessaloniki. The targets of the attacks were residences of members of the ruling New Democracy party. The perpetrators used crude explosive devices constructed from camping gas canisters.
Five people were injured in total from the explosions. Among the victims is a New Democracy parliamentary candidate who suffered serious burns. Her mother, also injured, was taken to hospital and is being treated in an intensive care unit. The other injured are a prominent party figure in Thessaloniki and a former MP of the same party.
The party secretary, Konstantinos Kyriangakis, characterised the attacks as a "genuine terrorist act" intended to take the lives of party members. He stated that New Democracy would not surrender to pressure and would not be intimidated.
The attacks were condemned by government representatives and opposition politicians, including PASOK and the left-wing SYRIZA. Government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis expressed solidarity with the victims and announced a decisive fight against terrorism.
In Greece, attacks against politicians and symbols of power are not rare. Last July, a bomb exploded outside the home of the president of the prison staff union in the same city, resulting in light injuries to two people.
Police are conducting an intensive investigation into Wednesday's attacks. So far, no information has been released about who is behind the attacks.
