The Northeastern Attica Security Division dismantled a criminal network operating an illegal telephone centre in a short-term rental property in Spata, according to Dikastiko.gr. Six members of the organisation were arrested.

Members of the ring obtained telephone directories from the Monastiraki market and used them to identify their potential victims. They subsequently called them on their landline phones, impersonating accountants, tax officials or employees of electrical companies.

Using this method, they stole money and jewellery from their victims — primarily elderly people. The ring is believed to have been active since the beginning of summer.

An investigation by Northeastern Attica Security identified seven completed fraud cases, with total stolen goods exceeding 350,000 euros. In parallel, 700 attempted fraud cases targeting elderly people that were not completed were also discovered.

During the search of the telephone operation, mobile phones, SIM cards and a car were seized. The six arrested individuals were taken before the prosecutor. Three of them were given a deadline to testify before the investigating magistrate, whilst the other three will appear on Wednesday. Official police announcements regarding the case are expected.
