The suspects arrested in Kozani were taken to Evelpidon courts this morning as part of the major investigation into illegal OPEKEPE subsidies. The 13 defendants were transferred to the European Public Prosecutor's Office on Loukareas Street to make their statements.
The case concerns fraud and criminal organisation operating in Kozani and Agrinio during the period 2019-2024. According to investigative evidence, the defendants are alleged to have unlawfully obtained EU funds totalling €2.5 million through false declarations and forged supporting documents.
Authorities conducted coordinated operations across several regions of the country, during which the 13 individuals were arrested. The charges they face include forming and participating in a criminal organisation, continued fraud, and money laundering.
The European Public Prosecutor's Office is conducting the main investigation, as this involves EU funds. The suspects were brought before the competent prosecutor, who will decide on the further course of the case.
