A 19-year-old Egyptian national was arrested for attempted rape of a 14-year-old inside a shopping centre in Marousi. The victim resisted and managed to escape.

A 19-year-old man of Egyptian origin was taken into police custody on the evening of Sunday, 12 July. The man is accused of attempting to sexually assault a minor aged 14 inside a shopping centre in the Amarousio area.
According to reporting from in.gr, the incident occurred shortly after 11 p.m. The suspect reportedly followed the teenager to the shopping centre's toilets, where he trapped her. There, he removed his clothes and attempted to assault her.
The 14-year-old, however, put up strong resistance, managed to escape from his grasp and immediately informed police officers from the DI.AS unit who were patrolling the shopping centre's car park.
The officers located the perpetrator and after a pursuit immobilised him. He was taken to the Department for the Prosecution of Crimes Against Life and Personal Freedom in Amarousio, where a case file was opened against him.
Authorities are investigating whether the accused had previously come to the attention of prosecuting services.
