A 22-year-old was arrested in Kifisia for involvement in a telephone scam targeting an elderly woman, with losses exceeding €120,000. He used an electrocution pretext to obtain money and jewellery.

A young man aged 22 was arrested by police officers from the Kifisia Department, accused of participating in a telephone scam against an elderly woman. The proceeds of the criminal act are calculated at more than €120,000.
The arrest took place on Wednesday, 1 July, after a warrant had been issued against him for theft in a professional capacity committed repeatedly.
According to an announcement by the Greek Police, on 17 June the 22-year-old, together with others, cooperated to defraud the woman. The young man impersonated an employee of an electricity supply company. He falsely informed her that she was at risk of being struck by an electric current. Using this story, he persuaded her to withdraw cash and valuables from her home, which were immediately seized by the gang.
The total value of the stolen items exceeds €120,000, according to the prosecuting authorities.
During a search of the perpetrator's home, officers found and seized clothing that he wore during the commission of the crime, as well as jewellery. The car used by the gang was also confiscated.
From the preliminary investigation, it emerged that the 22-year-old had previously come to the attention of the authorities for similar incidents. He was taken to the prosecutor.
