Arrest of 25-year-old for arson in Lagonissi, Attica
A 25-year-old foreign national was arrested today in Lagonissi for intentional arson after setting fire to approximately 50 square metres of dry grass using an open flame.

A 25-year-old foreign national was arrested this morning in Lagonissi, Eastern Attica, on suspicion of intentional arson, according to reports from Naftemporiki. The fire broke out at 09:05 and burnt approximately 50 square metres of dry grass before being brought under control.
According to investigation details released by the Fire Service, the fire was caused by the use of an open flame. Swift intervention prevented further spread of the fire.
The arrest was carried out by officers of the Investigation Unit for Combating Arson Crimes (A.K.A.E.E.) of Eastern Attica, which falls under the Directorate for Combating Arson Crimes (D.A.E.E.) of the Fire Service. Specialised officers from the D.A.E.E. also attended the scene to collect and evaluate evidence and to conduct a full investigation into the circumstances of the fire's outbreak.
The arrested individual is in custody and will be brought before the competent prosecutor tomorrow.
The Fire Service provides broader statistics for the period from 1 January to 20 September 2026: a total of 807 administrative fines have been imposed, totalling €1,382,537.96, whilst 356 arrests have been made in flagrante delicto. Of these, 316 (88.76%) concern arson through negligence and 40 (11.24%) through intent.
The D.A.E.E. and the A.K.A.E.E. throughout the country continue, according to the Fire Service, investigations to identify individuals engaged in arson offences.
