Arrest of 30-year-old Greek man for trafficking weapons to Dalton criminal organisation

A 30-year-old Greek man, who was being sought in connection with an investigation into the trafficking of weapons to members of the Turkish criminal organisation Dalton, was handed over to the authorities and arrested, according to Dikastiko.gr.
His arrest followed intensive police searches as part of the investigation, which had been uncovered in Thessaloniki. Both defendants are now in the custody of the authorities.
Disclosure of the case
The investigation began when police officers from the Organised Crime Prosecution Service—known as the "Greek FBI"—identified two men leaving a ground-floor storage space of a shop. The two men were allegedly carrying cardboard packaging and a bag, inside which an arsenal was discovered.
Among the seized weapons were a long-range firearm equipped with sights, which the authorities characterised as suitable for use by a sniper, as well as a sub-machine gun of the Uzi type. According to what one of those involved allegedly stated during examination, the weapons were intended for specific recipients—members of the Turkish criminal organisation Dalton.
The 36-year-old Turk and judicial developments
As part of the same investigation, a 36-year-old Turk had already been arrested. Initially, a decision had been issued for the release of both defendants; however, a prosecutor intervened and filed an appeal against this ruling.
Subsequently, the Court of Appeals decided on the remand in custody of the 36-year-old. The Turkish national was located and arrested outside the boundaries of Thessaloniki prefecture.
Both now in custody
With the surrender of the 30-year-old Greek man, both defendants in the case are now at the disposal of the authorities. The investigation into the trafficking of the weapons and their recipients continues.
