Joint operation by EYP and DAEEEV leads to arrest of suspect for terrorism

According to haniotika-nea.gr, a 37-year-old foreign national of Palestinian origin was arrested in Crete as part of a broad counter-terrorism operation. The man is accused of membership in the terrorist organisation Hamas, receiving training, travelling and planning terrorist activities.

The Hellenic Police announced that the operation was conducted jointly by the EYP and DAEEEV. According to information gathered so far, the arrested man was connected to individuals who were recently arrested in Cyprus for terrorism offences.

During searches of residences in Crete and Athens, mobile phones, a laptop, data storage devices, bank cards and laboratory equipment were seized. The material is expected to be assessed during the preliminary investigation.

The arrested man will be brought before the competent prosecutor, whilst investigations continue.
