Airport police at Athens Airport arrested a 45-year-old foreign national with a European arrest warrant issued by Belgium for involvement in a criminal organisation that committed cryptocurrency fraud.

Security personnel at Athens International Airport proceeded with the arrest of a 45-year-old foreign national, who was about to travel to Cyprus. The arrest was carried out on 10 July 2026 at the departure areas.
The arrested individual was being sought through a European arrest warrant by the Belgian authorities. He is accused of joining a criminal group, fraudulent activities and money laundering from illegal activities.
According to the case file, from 2023 the 45-year-old participated in a network with international reach that defrauded investors through digital currencies. His role was that of "account manager". He made contact with prospective victims, presented them with plausible investment proposals and guided their actions. From this activity he obtained profits exceeding €160,000.
The arrested individual was referred to the competent prosecutor.
