A 49-year-old Greek man was arrested in a settlement in the municipality of Sparta, accused of fraud. The preliminary investigation showed that on 7 June 2026, in the afternoon, the man, together with other individuals who have not yet been identified, presented himself as a representative of an accounting office.
Using false claims and pretending he would settle a tax authority fine, the perpetrator swindled money and jewellery from a citizen. When arrested, the authorities found and seized money that originated from the illegal activity.
In addition, a motor vehicle used to facilitate the criminal acts was seized. The investigation is being conducted by the department for prosecution and investigation of crimes in Sparta, with the assistance of the crime prevention and mediation team of Laconia.
