A 50-year-old man was taken into police custody in Chersonissos, Heraklion, following a complaint filed by an 18-year-old visitor from the United Kingdom. The young woman alleged that she was sexually assaulted by the individual in question.
The incident is reported to have occurred in the early morning hours of Tuesday, as the 18-year-old was returning to her accommodation. According to her statement, the 50-year-old immobilised her, transported her to a room in a hotel unit in the Chersonissos Municipality area, and proceeded to carry out acts to which she had objected.
Following the complaint, officers from the local police station launched an investigation. By combining witness statements with footage from closed-circuit surveillance cameras in the area, they were able to locate the alleged perpetrator and place him in custody.
A case file was opened against the 50-year-old for the offence of rape, and the matter is now in the hands of the judiciary.
