A 52-year-old gynaecologist was arrested on Thursday 8 October 2026 in Attica by officers from the Cyber Crime Prosecution Directorate on charges of child sexual abuse material, according to reports by thetoc.gr.

During a search of the suspect's residence and workplace, hundreds of photographs and video files containing material depicting sexual abuse of minors were discovered and seized, including children visibly under 15 and 12 years of age.

The alert from the USA

The case originated from information provided to the Greek Police by the American organisation National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC). According to these details, a user had uploaded material depicting sexual abuse of minors to an online storage service.

This was followed by digital analysis and online investigation by the Cyber Crime Prosecution Directorate, through which the suspect's full details were identified and his place of residence was verified.

The investigation and findings

On Thursday afternoon, officers carried out a search at the suspect's residence and medical practice. A mobile phone, computer hard drive, laptop, tablet and microSD memory card were seized.

The investigation established that the suspect managed the account in question on the online storage service. Hundreds of photographs and video files containing material depicting sexual abuse of minors were found stored locally.

Police sources state that the production of original child sexual abuse material has not been confirmed.

Fast-track procedure and prosecution

The 52-year-old was arrested under fast-track procedure and brought before the competent prosecuting authority. The digital evidence seized is being sent to the Forensic Investigation Directorate for laboratory examination.
