Police in Crete arrested a 53-year-old woman on the morning of Sunday, 28 June in an area under the jurisdiction of Rethymno Municipality. The charges she faces concern the illegal possession of weapons as well as the harbouring of persons who committed a criminal offence.

The incident occurred on the evening of Saturday, 27 June, when a social gathering was being held at a residence belonging to the woman. During the evening, someone or a group of people fired shots without aiming at anything in particular.

As part of the investigation that followed, officers from three different police services in Rethymno searched the house and surrounding areas. The searches resulted in the discovery and seizure of four firearms along with eight rounds of ammunition.

The 53-year-old was taken into custody because she refused to identify the individuals who fired the shots. By adopting this stance, she obstructed the efforts of the prosecuting authorities to locate and arrest the actual perpetrators.

The investigation into the case is being conducted by the Rethymno Prosecution and Crime Investigation Directorate.
