Police authorities arrested a 66-year-old man with cumulative sentences totalling 120 years in Lamia, according to reports from Naftemporiki. The 120 years represent a sum of individual sentences from different court decisions and not a single conviction — for the actual duration of imprisonment, the maximum limits of criminal legislation apply.
This concerns a series of cases primarily of an economic nature spanning approximately 15 years, as reported by ERTnews. His file includes convictions for fraud, forgery, tax evasion and other offences, ranging from misdemeanours to felonies. His first court involvement was identified in 2011, followed by successive convictions and arrest warrants.
The 66-year-old had fled abroad, where he remained until he was extradited to Greece. Following his return, he appeared before the authorities and reportedly stated his intention to cooperate. Subsequently, however, his whereabouts were lost again, forcing the authorities to launch a new search.
Police services from Thessaloniki and Athens participated in the operation to locate him. Information that reached the Charilaou-Analipsis Security Department indicated that the fugitive was in the Lamia area. This was followed by a coordinated operation that led to his arrest.
Following his arrest, the 66-year-old was brought before the competent judicial and prosecutorial authorities so that proceedings could be initiated to enforce the outstanding court sentences.
