The Investigative Unit for Combating Arson Crimes (A.K.A.E.E.) of Eastern Attica proceeded today with the arrest of a 25-year-old foreign national, following a fire that broke out at 09:05 in an open space in Lagonissi, Attica, according to businessdaily.gr.
The fire was quickly brought under control and destroyed approximately 50 square metres of dry grass without spreading further. According to investigation findings, the Fire Service reports that the fire was caused deliberately, through the use of an open flame.
Specialised personnel from the Directorate for Combating Arson Crimes (D.A.E.E.) also attended the scene, assisting in the collection and evaluation of evidence and the investigation of the circumstances of the fire's outbreak. The arrested individual is being held and is expected to be brought before the competent prosecutor tomorrow.
According to Fire Service data, from 1 January to 20 September 2026, a total of 807 administrative fines have been imposed, totalling €1,382,537.96. During the same period, 356 arrests were made under flagrante delicto procedures — 316 for negligence (88.76%) and 40 for intent (11.24%).
The D.A.E.E. and A.K.A.E.E. units throughout the country continue intensive investigations to identify individuals involved in arson activities.
