A 33-year-old Georgian national was arrested at Malagarió port in Samos while disembarking from a ship, after he was found to be in possession of a plastic vial containing 47.5 grams of methadone without a medical prescription.

An alert was raised by the Samos Port Authorities when, during the inspection of passengers at Malagarió port, a 33-year-old foreign national, a Georgian citizen, was identified transporting a prohibited substance.
The incident occurred when the man disembarked from a passenger-car ferry ship that had arrived from Piraeus. During the inspection, port authorities found in his possession a plastic vial containing a liquid substance of blue colour. The substance was identified as methadone and its total weight came to forty-seven grams and fifty centigrammes.
Significantly, the arrested man did not possess the required medical prescription for the lawful possession of the substance. Additionally, during the body search that followed, a passport was found in his possession that belonged to another person.
The 33-year-old was taken to the Drug Prosecution Office of the Samos Port Authority, where he was arrested for violation of legislation concerning narcotic substances and for breaches related to the residence of foreign nationals in the country. The narcotic substance was seized by the Samos Port Authority, which is conducting the preliminary investigation.
