A 45-year-old from Belgium was taken into custody by prosecution authorities at Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport while preparing to travel by air to Nicosia. The arrest took place on the morning of Friday, 10 July, in the departures area.

The foreign national was subject to a European arrest warrant issued by Belgian authorities. He was wanted for involvement in an organised criminal network that operated internationally, defrauding private individuals through investment schemes involving cryptocurrencies.

According to evidence from the investigation file, the man joined the group's structure from 2023. His role was to make contact with potential victims, presenting himself as a manager responsible for investment accounts. Under this pretext, he guided unsuspecting investors into false investments, extracting significant sums of money.

The illegal profit attributed to him exceeds 160,000 euros. The Belgian authorities charge him with membership in a criminal organisation, fraud with intent to continue, and laundering of proceeds from illegal activities.

Following his arrest, he was brought before the prosecution authorities for further proceedings in the case.
