Arrest of supercar event organiser on Thessaloniki's New Waterfront
According to Dikastiko.gr, the organiser of a supercar event was arrested by police authorities following the emergence of video footage capturing a luxury vehicle moving at particularly high speed on the pavement of the New Waterfront in Thessaloniki.
Deputy Mayor for Protection of Public Spaces and Municipal Police, Giorgos Dimarelos, clarified that the municipality of Thessaloniki had granted a permit to an event organisation company, represented by a foreign national, exclusively for the parking and stationing of luxury vehicles in front of the "Macedonia Palace" hotel. The permit did not in any way include the holding of a race on the waterfront.
Once the violation of the permit conditions was confirmed, the Municipal Police immediately contacted the Thessaloniki Traffic Police Directorate. The organiser was arrested and will be brought before the courts.
Mr Dimarelos posted a related statement in which he emphasised: "Images of shame with irresponsible individuals accelerating in their luxury vehicles on the pavement of the New Waterfront will not be tolerated. The permit that was granted concerned exclusively and solely the parking of vehicles at a specific location and in no way permitted behaviour that turns the new waterfront into a race track."
The deputy mayor also stated that the municipality of Thessaloniki is cooperating with the police and will immediately proceed with legal action against anyone responsible "for the danger caused and the disruption from the deplorable behaviour of some who believe the city is an ungoverned place".
