Boeotia: Arrest of foreign national for human trafficking and forced labour

Law enforcement authorities arrested a foreign national man in Boeotia on Friday, 11 September, accused of human trafficking and labour exploitation, according to Newsit.gr.

The accused was identified following an organised operation by the Crimes Investigation and Detection Department of Thebes. He is alleged to have held eight foreign nationals in a residence, whom he forced to work as agricultural labourers under conditions of exploitation.

The victims were forced into continuous work without being paid their wages and without being provided with the statutory daily breaks. The arrested man, together with unknown accomplices whose details are still being investigated, also withheld the victims' travel documents, thus restricting any possibility of escape from their situation.

The preliminary investigation was conducted by the Crimes Investigation and Detection Department of Thebes. The accused is expected to be brought before the District Prosecutor's Office of Boeotia – Thebes Branch.
