A fire broke out today, 11 June 2026, shortly after 1 p.m. in the Neochorio area of Chalkida in Euboea. The cause was negligence during the performance of agricultural work.
Specifically, a 64-year-old man of Greek nationality was operating a threshing machine, resulting in an uncontrolled fire. Firefighting forces were mobilised immediately and managed to limit the extent of the damage, containing the incident whilst it was still in its early stages.
The investigation services of the Fire Service undertook an investigation into the circumstances under which the fire broke out. An arrest of the person responsible followed, which took place in accordance with summary proceedings, following an order from the prosecutor.
According to official figures, during the period from 1 January to 11 June 2026, 414 administrative violations have been recorded, with total monetary fines of €410,631.395. Additionally, within the framework of summary proceedings, 82 arrests have been made.
