Chania: Police Officers' Union congratulates on arrest of forensic pathologist and toxicologist
According to Google News GR — Crime (el), the Police Officers' Union of Chania expressed its congratulations to the management of the Crime Investigation and Detection Subdivision of Chania (YΔEE Chania) and to the police officers who participated in the multi-month operation, which resulted in the arrest of a forensic pathologist and toxicologist. The Union described the operation as extremely successful.
The Union's president, Stelios Seleniotakis, stated that the arrested individuals are being investigated for certificates and reports that are alleged to be unsubstantiated or false. An investigation is also underway into their possible involvement in two cases concerning police officers, as well as whether their actions affected the criminal prosecution of civilians and police officers.
The two cases were described in detail by Mr Seleniotakis. The first concerns an incident in 2015 in Vrisses Apokoronos, where two police officers were wounded by gunshot from a hunting rifle. One officer has retained buckshot in his head to this day with a disability rating of 95%, whilst the second faces serious mobility problems in his arm and leg, with a disability rating of 40%.
The second case concerns the sudden death of a civilian during a police check in Vrisses Apokoronos on 1 September 2023, for which four police officers — members of the Union — are charged. Once the preliminary investigation material is submitted to the competent authorities, it will be determined to what extent the actions of the arrested individuals affected the judicial decisions in both cases.
The Union reiterated its full support for the four police officers involved in the 2023 case, providing moral and financial assistance. "Above all, what is most important is the support they receive from all 500 members of our Union," stressed Mr Seleniotakis. In parallel, the police officers involved in the 2015 incident are receiving the same support — their initial certificates had characterised them as having no permanent injury, whilst later ones recorded disability ratings of 95% and 40%.
The Police Officers' Union of Chania also extended its congratulations to the Director of Police of Chania, Colonel Kanellos Nikolaou, and to the General Regional Police Director of Crete, Brigadier George Doukis, for the successful completion of the operation.
