According to Dikastiko.gr, on the afternoon of Wednesday 14 October, officials from Mandoudi Port Authority discovered during a scheduled inspection that a moored fishing vessel had sunk due to the adverse weather conditions prevailing in the area of northern Euboea.

The vessel, unoccupied, remains submerged at a depth of approximately two metres. Its owner was immediately notified to initiate the necessary salvage procedures.

Mandoudi Port Station, part of the Central Port Authority of Chalkida, which is conducting the preliminary investigation, proceeded to arrest the owner. The charge concerns a violation of article 277 paragraph 2 of the Penal Code, known as "causing a shipwreck through negligence", in conjunction with Legislative Decree 712/70 on administrative control of maritime accidents.
