Kamouris and wife arrested over e-EFKA fraud ring

The president of LAOS, Philippos Kamouris, and his wife have been arrested on suspicion of fraud against e-EFKA, according to reports by megatv.com. The case involves damage exceeding €5 million to the public purse, from both contribution evasion and tax evasion.

According to authorities' investigation, the criminal ring began its activities in 2021, opening at least 25 companies — advertising firms, restaurants, nightclubs and clothing shops — through "straw men". These companies did not pay contributions to EFKA and, once debts accumulated, they would close, leaving the social security body unpaid.

"From the authorities' investigation into the e-EFKA frauds, it was revealed that the ring led by the president of LAOS, Philippos Kamouris, and his wife, from 2021 opened at least 25 companies in the names of 'straw men' and subsequently closed them without paying contributions to EFKA," the authorities stated.

Investigations are now being extended within the party itself. Under examination is, among other things, the issuance of invoices by companies allegedly created using the same methodology to LAOS.

The case was commented on by LAOS founder Georgos Karatzaferis: "Only now have I learned about his illegal activities and the EFKA fraud, but this man should have been arrested by the state long ago. It took far too long. He is among the worst people I have ever encountered as a character."
