Arrest of "Chinese" suspect in occupied territories for Zambuni murder – extradition pending
The 43-year-old suspect in the Zambuni murder in Neos Kosmos had been hiding in the occupied territories for 389 days. He was arrested in Kyrenia and extradition proceedings are awaited.

For 389 days, the 43-year-old known as "Chinese", who was wanted by Greek Police for the murder of Vangelis Zambuni in Neos Kosmos, had been hiding in the occupied territories, according to iefimerida.gr.
The authorities of the pseudostate, citing the website "Kıbrıs Postası", arrested the suspect in Kyrenia. He was brought before a "court" where he was charged with illegal residence and violation of "military forbidden zone". The "court" issued a "detention order" for three days, whilst the purpose of his presence is being investigated and possible involvement in other crimes is examined.
A member of the pseudostate's "police" testified that the suspect had been living illegally in the occupied territories for 389 days, that he had crossed into free areas covertly via Tymvos and had returned in the same manner in July.
Greek Police had made public the details of "Chinese" on 1 August. The Greek FBI already knew he had participated in Edik's execution team, identifying a member with Asian origin characteristics and linking him to the Zambuni case. Extradition proceedings to Greece are now expected to be initiated.
A file has been opened against him for participation in and membership of a criminal organisation, manslaughter, illegal possession of firearms, forgery and other offences.
The murder of Vangelis Zambuni, a figure in the Greek Mafia, was carried out in early 2024. Zambuni was in his parked car outside his petrol station in Neos Kosmos when a vehicle stopped beside him and two armed men emerged carrying Kalashnikovs. One opened the car door — a person believed to be Sokpas — and the second began shooting. Within 28 seconds, the victim sustained almost 100 bullet wounds in what was characterised at the time as one of the "most expensive hit contracts".
