A person has been taken into custody in Igoumenitsa who is believed to have played the role of "collector" in a group that defrauded elderly people through telephone calls. The operation was carried out by police officers from the local crime prosecution service.
The perpetrators posed as specialists in financial matters and, using various pretexts — such as the need to replace old banknotes or avoid financial penalties — managed to obtain cash, jewellery and valuable items from their victims. Two cases have been clarified so far, with the group's total proceeds exceeding 184,000 euros.
