A 46-year-old woman is in the hands of British authorities, accused of the fatal attack on a bank branch in Athens 15 years ago.

In the early hours of Monday, at an airport in the British capital, police arrested a 46-year-old woman. The suspect in question faces charges over the fatal attack carried out in 2010 at a bank branch on Stadiou Street, in the centre of Athens.
Her arrest was made around 3:00 in the morning at Gatwick, where she was employed. It appears she was planning to board a flight to Greece at 5:00. She had stated through her legal representative over the weekend that she intended to return, claiming she had no involvement whatsoever. Nevertheless, an international arrest warrant was activated before she could leave.
The competent judicial authority of the British authorities will decide whether or not she will be extradited to Greece, after first examining the case file. Until a decision is issued, she will remain in custody in Great Britain.
According to reports from Newsbeast, the evidence in the case includes video material in which the woman appears close to one of two 42-year-old men who had been arrested earlier. Additionally, testimony indicates that she transported a bag containing incendiary Molotov cocktail bombs, from which those used in the attack presumably originated.
The Minister for Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, rejected claims that anonymous messages formed the basis for the arrests. As he stated, the gathering of evidence began in 2019. After assuming office at the ministry in 2024, the investigation was assigned to specialised services that re-examined the material. The conclusions have been forwarded to the justice system and all documents are at the disposal of the prosecution authorities.
The Marfin case had cost the lives of three employees and remains one of the most serious crimes of the past fifteen years in our country.
