Arrest of Tsitsipas's aunt following wolf-dog attack in Vari – three injured
The aunt of Stefanos Tsitsipas was arrested for bodily harm through negligence following an attack by two wolf-dogs in Vari. Three citizens were injured, whilst the tennis player's mother is being sought.
Arrest over wolf-dog attack – Tsitsipas's mother sought
The aunt of well-known tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas was arrested on the morning of Thursday, 17 September 2026, following an attack by two wolf-dogs on three citizens in the Vari area, according to Newsit.gr. A case file was opened against her for bodily harm through negligence in multiple consecutive incidents. At the same time, the tennis player's mother is being sought in the context of flagrante delicto proceedings, as the two animals belong to the two women.
How the incident unfolded
The two wolf-dogs initially attacked a man, biting him. Subsequently, the woman's niece – who rushed to the scene to find out what had happened – came under attack from the enraged animals and was bitten on the hand. Before the head of the municipality's stray dog unit arrived at the scene, the dogs attacked a third person.
The injured woman was taken to Vari Health Centre for first aid. The health condition of the other two injured persons remains unknown.
"They knocked me down" – testimony from the injured woman
The woman described to Newsit.gr what she experienced: "My uncle called me in the morning from Vari and told me that two wolf-dogs had bitten him. They were going to kill his cat and he reached out his hand. As I was going up a street, one of the wolf-dogs sees me and runs towards me. The other one started running too, and one of them grabbed me by the hand."
She said that she remained still for a few seconds and fell down. "Fortunately, my head of the stray dog unit happened to be passing, who picked me up because I was dizzy and took me to Vari Health Centre. I was given some antibiotics, but my hand was bleeding. It has also bitten another lady, more seriously, who is at KAT," she added.
The injured woman filed a complaint, as did another victim. Concluding, she noted: "The animals are not to blame, the irresponsibility of people is to blame."
Dogs at veterinary clinic – history of attacks
Police arrested one woman, whilst the two animals were taken to a veterinary clinic for microchip examination.
Although these are not the same animals, this is not the first time that pets belonging to the Tsitsipas family have been involved in an attack. In 2023, a family dog jumped over the fence of the house and attacked a 13-year-old, who was hospitalised with injuries to his hands and feet. Two years later, another animal from the same family attacked a 71-year-old in Voula – the victim required stitches. According to reports, the same dogs had also mauled a cat in the area.
