Arrest of three men for assault, robbery and hostage-taking of tourist in Malia
Three men were arrested in Malia, Crete, following a complaint from an 18-year-old German tourist, who alleged that he was subjected to a violent attack, held against his will and had money taken from him inside a nightclub.
According to patris.gr and as reported by the young man to the Chersonissos Police Department, the incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday. The 18-year-old was in a nightclub in Malia with a Norwegian friend of the same age. There, two young Greek men and a man from Cameroon approached them and accused them of causing damage to an electronic device that belonged to them.
The three strangers demanded that the two foreign men pay a sum of money equal to the alleged material damage. When the German and the Norwegian refused, the three men took them to a closed area inside the establishment. According to the complaint, they then began hitting them with punches and kicks all over their bodies and heads, whilst holding them against their will, refusing to allow them to leave until they paid the money.
After they left, the German tourist filed a complaint against the three men. In response, the arrested men filed their own complaint against the 18-year-old for making a false accusation. Following the dispute, the authorities proceeded to arrest all three suspects.
The alleged perpetrators face charges of robbery, extortion and abduction. The case is now in the hands of the justice system.
