Police and fire service authorities carried out two separate arrests on Sunday, 7 June 2026, following fires caused by negligence in Domoko and Salamis.
In the early afternoon, at 12:20, a fire broke out in the Mantasia area of Domoko. A 34-year-old Greek man was carrying out agricultural work, specifically harvesting clover, when a metal component of farming equipment struck a rock and caused sparks. This resulted in the ignition of dry grass. The flames spread across approximately three acres of cultivated land before reaching the boundaries of a nearby forest area. The man was arrested on the spot by personnel from the Lamia Fire Service and the local fire brigade unit.
Minutes later, at 12:27, a second incident occurred in Ampelakia, Salamis. A 61-year-old Greek national was performing metal-cutting work using an electric wheel without observing the required safety measures to prevent fire. This negligence caused a fire that destroyed approximately six acres of land. The perpetrator was arrested by officials from the Attica Police Operations Directorate and the Piraeus Investigative Division, and was fined 4,021.87 euros.
According to official figures, from the beginning of the year until 7 June 2026, the authorities have imposed 402 administrative fines totalling 383,397.05 euros and have made 71 arrests for similar offences.
