A 39-year-old man has been in police custody since 29 June, allegedly having participated in a group that carried out robberies using firearms. The arrest was made by police officers from the Crime Investigation and Detection Unit of Amfissa, acting on a warrant.

The accused faces serious charges for aggravated theft and robbery, allegedly committed as a profession, jointly with others, and in a continuing manner.

According to the evidence gathered during the investigation, his associates had created a structured group with the aim of committing robberies. Their tactic involved stealing vehicles, which they would then use to approach their selected business premises undetected.

Upon arriving at their targets, the perpetrators would break in and, using the threat of a firearm, seize cash from tills and from employees. To avoid detection, they wore gloves, caps and hoods.

From two armed attacks against business staff in the areas of Kifisia and Lykovrysi, the group obtained over €12,500.

The arrested man has been referred to the prosecuting authority.
