Law enforcement authorities arrested a man for possession of digital material depicting child abuse, following a coordinated investigation with foreign security services.

A 62-year-old man has been taken into custody on charges relating to child pornography. His arrest resulted from a joint investigation by Greek and international authorities, including services from the United States, South Africa and Spain.
The operation is part of two major international actions with operational codenames aimed at identifying individuals who distribute material depicting child abuse over the internet. Following digital analysis and investigation in cyberspace, the prosecuting authorities managed to identify the suspect's details and residential address.
On the morning of 3 June, police officers conducted a raid on his home in the presence of a prosecutor. During the search, two mobile phones and a microSD memory card were found and seized. Examination of the devices revealed hundreds of videos containing material depicting the sexual exploitation of children, mainly under 15 years of age.
According to an official statement, the arrested man had previously come to the attention of authorities for similar offences and had been remanded in custody. The digital findings will be sent for laboratory analysis to the Forensic Investigation Directorate, whilst the 62-year-old is being taken before the prosecutor.
