A network that issued false prescriptions against EOPYY has been dismantled by the Organised Crime Directorate. A former opposition parliamentary candidate is alleged to be the head of the ring.

Police officers from the Organised Crime Directorate have managed to dismantle a group that defrauded the National Organisation for the Provision of Health Services (EOPYY) with forged medical prescriptions. The losses to the organisation exceed €400,000, whilst the illegal prescriptions issued number more than 6,000.
A former opposition parliamentary candidate is alleged to have played a leadership role in the organisation and has been taken into custody. Nine other individuals are involved in the case, including a psychiatrist, a family medicine doctor who worked in a state hospital, as well as pharmacists.
The investigation began following a complaint filed by EOPYY itself. The alleged perpetrators had created an organised network from at least March 2020. They exploited Social Security Registry Numbers (AMKA) of insured persons who had not activated electronic prescribing, with the aim of avoiding detection of their activities.
Subsequently, they issued forged prescriptions by forging the signatures of the insured persons and collected money from EOPYY.
