Four individuals alleged to be members of an organised criminal group were arrested by police authorities following an operation that solved 105 cases of battery thefts from mobile phone masts.

The total value of the stolen batteries is estimated to exceed €500,000. The perpetrators had developed a specific modus operandi, using code names for their communications.

During the operation, authorities seized 103 lithium batteries of various types, ammunition, knives and a carbine. The gang had targeted telecommunications masts in various areas, removing valuable batteries used as backup power sources.

The arrested individuals were brought before the competent prosecutor, whilst the investigation continues for the identification of possible accomplices.
