Greek police in Thessaloniki have arrested three people suspected of arson at the home of a conservative politician, resulting in the death of her 72-year-old mother.

Greek police in Thessaloniki have arrested three people suspected of arson at the residence of conservative politician Aphrodite Nestor. In this attack on 1 July, the politician's 72-year-old mother lost her life.
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced to parliament that ten days after the attack, the authorities had kept their promise to identify and arrest those responsible. He stressed that the state would continue to respond decisively to those attempting to spread fear in society through violent acts.
The attack on the home of the ruling party "New Democracy" politician occurred early in the morning of 1 July. Vehicles were set alight in the car park of the apartment building in Thessaloniki, and the politician's mother suffered fatal burns. Four other people were wounded.
Over recent decades, Greece has been repeatedly shaken by politically motivated violence. Although previous terrorist organisations have been largely eliminated, autonomous groups continue to carry out arson attacks and bombings, targeting politicians, state services, police stations, banks and businesses.
