Greek police have arrested three people in connection with an attack on the home of a conservative politician in Thessaloniki. The attack on 1 July cost the life of the politician's 72-year-old mother, whilst four other people were injured.

On 1 July, in the early morning hours, unknown assailants attacked the home of a politician from the ruling "New Democracy" party in Thessaloniki. Cars were set alight in the building's garage. The politician's 72-year-old mother suffered fatal burns and lost her life. Four other people were also injured.
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced today in Parliament that ten days after the attack, authorities had fulfilled their promise to locate and arrest those responsible. He stressed that the state will continue to deal decisively with those who attempt to spread fear in society through violent action.
According to the public broadcasting network ERT, one woman and two men were arrested. All three had previously been of concern to the authorities.
In recent decades, Greece has been shaken many times by politically motivated violence. Although previous terrorist organisations have been largely eliminated, autonomous groups continue to carry out arson attacks and explosions, attacking politicians, state services, police stations, banks and businesses.
