Anti-fascist rally in Keratsini marking 13 years since Fyssas murder
Thirteen years have passed since the murder of anti-fascist musician Pavlos Fyssas in Keratsini, in an attack carried out by members of Golden Dawn's assault division. As reported by Efimerida ton Syntakton, SYRIZA-PS attended in full at the anti-fascist rally held at his memorial.
The murder of Fyssas marked the peak of the criminal activity of the neo-Nazi organisation, which had previously targeted PAME trade unionists in Perama and Egyptian fishing workers.
A wreath was laid by Nikos Pappas, Secretary of the Central Committee of SYRIZA-PS. Those who participated in the rally also included Rena Dourou, President of the Parliamentary Group, MP and Rights and Equality Sector Coordinator Elena Akrita, Deputy Secretary Natasa Gara, Political Secretariat members Dimitris Petras, Christos Lambridis and Tasos Politidis, as well as dozens of party members.
Following the wreath-laying, Pappas stated: "Thirteen years after the murder of Pavlos Fyssas, we remember and remind [ourselves] that fascism is the ideology of hatred, the ideology that divides people, the ideology that kills. In these neighbourhoods, in this country, the swastika has been condemned to eternal shame."
The Secretary of the Central Committee added that with Fyssas's death "tens of thousands of anti-fascists were born", calling on society to remain vigilant and the Left to wage a "relentless struggle against the causes that nurture the serpent's egg".
For her part, Rena Dourou emphasised that the slogan "Paul lives, crush the Nazis" is not merely a slogan, but rather "a duty towards Paul, towards Loukman, towards the Egyptian fishermen". She made special mention of the victim's mother, Magda Fyssas, whom she characterised as a woman who transformed "unbearable pain" into strength, having been "from the very first moment in the front line of the anti-fascist struggle".
"SYRIZA-PS is present against the descendants of collaborators who want fascism to raise its head again", concluded Dourou.
