Accountant fraud against 94-year-old woman in Ano Geio, Rethymno
According to ERT, a new case of telephone fraud has come to light in Ano Geio, Rethymno, shortly after a similar incident involving a 57-year-old victim in Chania.
A 94-year-old woman received a telephone call from an unknown man, who introduced himself as an accountant. The man told her that she owed €3,000 to the Tax Authority and advised her to withdraw her money from the house — on the pretext that otherwise "the satellite will record it and the Tax Authority will seize it".
Convinced, the elderly woman placed €2,500 that she had in her possession into a bag, along with valuable jewellery, and left the bag hidden in a flower pot in her yard.
An unknown person came to the house, collected the bag and disappeared. As soon as the elderly woman realised she had been deceived, she informed the Greek Police. The Greek Police have launched an investigation to locate the perpetrator or perpetrators.
