Telephone fraud in Florina: Two arrests – damage of €11,700 to 52-year-old

Two Greek men — a minor and a 23-year-old — were arrested on Saturday afternoon, 26 September in Florina, following a coordinated police operation into a telephone fraud case, according to cnn.gr.
According to the case details, the 52-year-old victim received a call at the landline telephone of his residence. An unknown man presented himself as a tax official and convinced him that he needed to register his money and valuables, allegedly to avoid a fine. The 52-year-old placed jewellery, gold items and pounds worth approximately €9,000, as well as €2,700 in cash, into a bag and left it outside his house.
As soon as he realised the fraud, he immediately informed the police. Police officers located a suspicious passenger car in an area of Florina in which the two suspects were travelling. During a search of the vehicle, which was seized, three mobile telephones, the stolen valuables and the €2,700 in cash were found, which were returned to the 52-year-old.
A case file was drawn up against the two arrested individuals, as well as a third accomplice whose details are being sought, for fraud in complicity. Additionally, the 42-year-old mother of the minor was also arrested, on a charge of neglect of supervision of her minor child.
The investigation into the identification of the unknown accomplice is continuing by the Department of Prosecution and Investigation of Crimes in Florina. The case file will be submitted to the Prosecutor of the District Court of Florina.
