Three arrests and one identified individual were recorded in Ioannina within the framework of a police investigation into two separate criminal organisations. According to Dikastiko.gr, these organisations are alleged to be involved in telephone fraud schemes with elderly citizens as their primary targets.
Members of the two organisations used different pretexts depending on the case, with the aim of convincing potential victims to hand over cash, jewellery, or other valuables. In some cases they presented themselves as doctors or police officers, whilst in others as accountants, depending on the fraud scenario.
The arrest of the woman in the first case
As part of the first case, police officers located and arrested a woman who was heading towards the residence of an elderly citizen. According to the investigation findings, her aim was to collect cash and gold items.
The arrest was made before the handover of the items was completed. Authorities are investigating her role in the case, as well as possible connections with other members of the organisation.
Two young men arrested in a separate operation
In a second operation, police authorities arrested two young men who are alleged to have attempted to collect money from a citizen. The potential victim had realised in time that it was a fraud and had already notified the Police, with the result that the two perpetrators were located and arrested in flagrante delicto.
A further individual has been identified as part of the same investigation, according to the Police, which is continuing its investigative actions.
