From the Vlachou family, Vaios's mother, Maria Theodori, testified first. She described her anguish at Larissa General Hospital and the assistance they received solely from volunteers. "I saw a non-existent state in relation to the volunteers," she stated. She also mentioned that a mortuary employee asked her not to enter for identification, with the result that her son's identification was carried out via DNA. "Vaios Vlachou will always be 34 years old. I, his mother, will always be 59, because on 28 February 2023 time stopped for both of us," she said characteristically.
Christos Vlachou characterised the incident as "state murder", emphasising that "the state is exclusively responsible". He also said that the case file gave "flesh and bones" to the concept of corruption. He and Maria Theodori discovered debris and biological material on a plot of land in Larissa during their private investigation.
From the Plakia family, Dimitrios Plakias, uncle of twins Thomais and Chrysi, gave testimony. "The two children grew up together, together they were murdered," he said. He referred to conditions in the hospital and the "rubble", saying that "the government's first lie came early" and that bones found at Kolouri led to a second funeral.
The twins' father, Nikos Plakias, referred to a report by an English technical adviser and to a video from Leptokarya. "I believe in justice. In the end we must find the truth," he stated. Their mother, Sofia Zaropoulou, called on the court to "put the knife to the bone", noting that "the graves are still open and waiting for justice".
