Tempi: Court reserved judgement on upgrading of charges

In the trial over the railway tragedy at Tempi, the president of the court did not proceed to an immediate decision regarding the request from the side supporting the charge to upgrade the crimes following the start of the evidentiary proceedings. The court stated that it would rule on the matter at a later date.

Additionally, the court did not issue a ruling on the request for annulment of the summons decree. The president clarified that the relevant ruling will be issued after the defendants submit any objections.

The court further reserved judgement to rule on requests for submission of supplementary documents to the case file and for the calling of additional witnesses.

At the same time, it became known that a new laboratory report was added to the case file concerning the route of the passenger train involved in the collision. According to the president, audiovisual materials containing investigation material from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations were submitted, following an order by the investigating judge. This report will be incorporated into the case file and will be evaluated during the course of the trial.

The hearing will continue the following day, with defence counsel for the defendants presenting their first independent arguments, whilst proceedings will advance gradually to the examination of the central procedural and substantive matters.
