Four people have been arrested in Northern Evia following an attack by supporters against fans who participated in an event of a Super League club. Two of those arrested are also implicated in the murder case of police officer Giorgos Lygeridis.

Four men are in the custody of prosecuting authorities following an incident with a fan-related background that took place in Northern Evia. The victims were fans—among them children with their parents—who had attended a public event of a club from the top tier of Greek football.
The attack took place in Mantoud, where the championship-winning team's trophy had been transported as part of a wider tour across the country. When the event concluded and those present were departing, they came under attack from a group of individuals reported to be supporters of a rival club. The attackers caused damage to the victims' vehicle and attacked them physically.
The presence of police forces patrolling the wider area enabled the swift apprehension of the four perpetrators. Nikos Rigas, vice-chairman of the Police Officers' Association of Athens, noted that the composure of the adult passengers in the vehicle helped prevent more serious consequences.
Particularly concerning is the fact that two of those arrested appear as defendants in another pending case: the murder of police officer Giorgos Lygeridis, which continues to be tried. According to Mr Rigas, these are individuals who appear to participate repeatedly in acts of violence under the guise of sport.
The police unionist also referred to mobile groups that travel from place to place with the sole purpose of creating incidents, targeting even young fans exclusively because of the team they support.
He reminded that in previous operations against organised supporter associations, firearms, blades, axes, batons and various other dangerous implements have been seized—facts that demonstrate that such behaviour is unconnected to sport.
Investigations into the incident are continuing by the competent authorities.
