The death of Antiparos mayor Anastasios Pharoupos is attributed to a traffic accident, according to In.gr. The mayor was found dead on Saturday morning on a road on the island, next to his scooter.
According to information available so far, Pharoupos was travelling alone on his motorcycle when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of the vehicle and fell. Doctors established that the injuries he sustained were fatal and the mayor died at the scene.
Based on evidence gathered by police investigating the case, there appears to be no involvement of another vehicle in the accident.
To fully determine the circumstances of death, it was decided to conduct an autopsy. The mayor's body will be transferred to Athens so that it can be determined whether a health problem occurred before the fall.
At the same time, authorities are seeking footage from security cameras and eyewitnesses who may be able to shed light on the circumstances of the accident.
