Thessaloniki: Manhunt for arsonists following death of Vagia Nestor
Violent attacks with petrol bombs were recently carried out in the co-capital, resulting in the death of Vagia Nestor. Security authorities are conducting a multi-level investigation to locate those responsible.
The forensic laboratories are examining genetic material and fingerprints collected from a piece of tape, as well as from remnants at the explosive devices. Initial findings are expected within the current week, although the analysis may be delayed.
In parallel, visual material from closed-circuit surveillance systems is being exploited. Analysts are searching for points where the fugitives may have discarded protective face coverings, something that would facilitate their identification.
Additionally, results from the lifting of telephone secrecy are pending. The aim is to ascertain whether the same perpetrators are implicated in similar previous incidents in the city.
According to the assessments of officers, at least three individuals participated in the organisation and execution of the attacks. Those in charge express confidence that the net is tightening and that the arrest of those responsible is a matter of hours. However, no organisation is expected to claim responsibility.
